About Us

Our vision

Our vision is that there is free, skilled, breastfeeding support available for every family who want it, when they need it, in the Cambridge area.

Since 2014 we have run a weekly, in person, breastfeeding support drop in, first at Homerton Childrens Centre, then at Trumpington Meadows Primary school. We had to suspend this during the pandemic and moved online.

Our drop in provides qualified, skilled breastfeeding help, supporting babies and mothers to initiate breastfeeding and meet their breastfeeding goals. Partners, and other family members are welcome and often benefit from being able to discuss their concerns.

Our volunteers

If you attend our weekly in person drop in session you will be welcomed by someone with a clipboard and a friendly smile.  This will be one of our volunteer team – without them we couldn’t do what we could do.

Our volunteers make you feel at home, and make sure everyone is seen by a trained, skilled, breastfeeding counsellor. Many of them have attended our sessions for support with their own children, and all have received bespoke training for their role.

Our history

Cambridge Breastfeeding Alliance has been providing vital breastfeeding support to families in Cambridge since 2007.  We were previously funded by Homerton Children’s Centre, however this funding was cut in 2014.  We then became a registered charitable organisation to enable us to raise funds and continue to provide breastfeeding support.

From 2014 to 2020 we ran a weekly in person breastfeeding support drop-in service at Trumpington Meadows Primary School.

During 2020 with the pandemic, we moved all our support online and provided online and video support. We provided support six mornings a week.

From June 2021 we provide a weekly in person breastfeeding support service at Ross Street Community Centre in central Cambridge. And we are continuing our online support three mornings a week.
